I’ve posted a few medical articles in the past month. I thought I’d try to pull them all together by talking about medical kits. First of all I have to say, commercial First Aid kits and supplies have a very high mark-up and profit margin. I prefer to make my own. It is no more expensive and you’ll end up with a better kit.

If you build a few kits at the same time (one for each car and one for home), you can buy bulk from a medical supply store or online from med supply or vet store. You can also pick up some items like bandages, tape, gauze, medications, tweezers, needles, thermometer, etc. from the Dollar store. Just shop around and you can save a lot of money.

If you want an okay kit that is pre-made, I like Adventure Medical Kits the best. You can start with the one below and add the additional items you want. Again my preference is to build my own.

Adventure Medical 2.0 First Aid Kit

Basis Medical Kit – My basic kit is divided into 2 kits, First-Aid and Trauma. Most Basic First-Aid Kits are really “Comfort” Kits. My Basic kit has a few extra goodies than most and has some important items for infection management. Infection can take a small cut or scrape and turn it into a killer. The Basic Trauma Kit can handle basic and moderate wounds and fractures. I separate the two kits because I use the items in my First-Aid Kit as needed and then replace them. The items in the Trauma kit would not be used regularly but only for a bad accident.
